FBC Vision Statement (ABRIDGED)

OUR PASSION: (The motivation that drives our vision)

Loving & Knowing God – Knowing & Loving People

Mark 12:30-31 Philippians 3:8-11

We long to be a community that joyfully and obediently honours God by:

•loving Him completely and knowing Him intimately; Mark 12:30 Philippians 3:8-11

•loving those in the Christian family with authenticity while striving to know them fully; John 13:34-35

•loving all others compassionately while striving to know them intentionally; Mark 12:31 1Peter 2:12

(God) We want to be a church family that, above all else, puts God first, elevating Him in the eyes of others through our intimate love for Him. We want to be known for: our ability to love and know God; our complete devotion to God; our faithful submission to His will; and our unwavering trust in Him. We will strive to experience the depth of God as we get to know Him intimately - valuing what He values and treasuring what He treasures. We want to learn what it means to be truly content in the presence of God, to be in an authentic relationship with Him.

(Christian Family) We want to be known for our love for one another in the family of God. We want to live in true community, building authentic relationships, genuinely living out the “one another” commands. We want to be known for: our ability to forgive, encourage and care for one another; our willingness to keep one another accountable; and our capacity to live in unity and harmony with one another.

(All Others) We want to be known for: our compassionate love of others; our ability to look at others through the eyes of God; and our willingness to accept others as Christ did. We want to be others-oriented, intentionally putting the needs of others ahead of our own. We want to be so genuine in our love for others that they will be deeply moved by it - to the extent that they will develop an intense desire to explore the God we love and serve.

Our PURPOSE: (The main reason for our existence)

Bringing the Heart of God to the Hearts of People

Matthew 28:18-20

We want to be a church family committed to making disciples of Jesus Christ – intentionally, relationally and authentically leading broken hearts to the heart of God.

We see discipleship as a process, not an event, where we:

•love potential believers into God’s family;

•mentor new believers in their new found faith;

•nurture growing believers to become more like Christ;

•and challenge mature believers to live a life that reflects the desires and the heart of God.

We will fulfill this purpose through the following four-fold plan of action - a plan that focuses on four main areas: outreach, spiritual growth, service and leadership.

OUR PLAN: (The strategy we’re going to use in accomplishing our purpose)

P – Presenting to all the Truth of Christ

We want to be a church family that has a heart for evangelism, inviting people to consider the person and truth of Christ, both in our community and around the world.

1 Peter 3:15 1 Corinthians 9:19-23

We want to intentionally build loving relationships with others in our community, meeting needs in practical ways and taking the person and truth of Christ to others in a culturally relevant manner.

We want to lovingly respond to needs around the world, practically helping to meet the felt needs that God directs us to meet while introducing people to their Greatest Need – Jesus Christ.

We will do this in a manner that exhibits the heart of God: living in the world without being of it; demonstrating hearts that are humble, selfless - putting the needs of others ahead of our own.

Pillars:

•Outreach

•Prayer

•Stewardship

•Children & Youth

•Families

•Biblical Truth

Additional Bible Readings: John 8:32, John 14:6, John 3:16

L – Learning to live in and through Christ

We want to be a church family that deliberately helps believers (new, growing and mature) nurture faith in Christ, abundantly experiencing His fullness and power.

Philippians 1:21 Colossians 2:6-7 1 John 2:5-6 Philippians 4:8-9

We want to be transformed by God, allowing Him to renew our hearts and minds as we faithfully interact with and obey the truth of God’s Word.

We want to be known as people: who thirst and hunger for God’s Word; who apply His Word in every area of our lives; who desire nothing more than to seek His will consistently; who speak the truth in love and hold one another accountable; who are so convinced of God’s truth and existence that we follow His commands without regret or reluctance.

Pillars:

•Biblical Truth

•Dynamic Worship

•Caring Small Groups

•Children & Youth

•Prayer

•Families

A – Accepting and encouraging others in Christ

We want to be a church family known for its Christ-like acceptance of others, both inside and outside the community of faith – challenging one another to live out our faith in such a manner that we lovingly view everyone as Jesus does.

Ephesians 4:1-3 1 Samuel 16:7 Philippians 2:3-4

We want to be a Family that lives out the “one another” commands from the Bible – a church known for its love, community, hospitality and unity.

We want to be known as a church family with a heart of encouragement, that welcomes everyone God brings across our path, knowing He has a purpose and plan for each heart.

We want to be known for our Christ-like ability to accept people as they are while encouraging them to see themselves through the eyes of God.

Pillars:

•Community

•Outreach

N – Nourishing and Training to Serve like Christ

We want to be a church family known for our heart-felt willingness to equip and mentor believers to serve God with their time, natural abilities, spiritual giftedness, finances and resources.

1 Peter 4:10 2 Timothy 2:2 Ephesians 4:11-12

We want to equip and mentor believers to serve others with their passions, personality and giftedness.

We want to intentionally build godly leaders who can lead like Christ – leaders with a servant’s heart; leaders who exhibit biblical principles and are living examples of our Vision.

Pillars:

•Gift-oriented Ministry

•Stewardship

•Children & Youth

•Prayer

Additional Bible Readings: Ephesians 4:11-16, Isaiah 55:10-11, I Corinthians 3:5b-9

OUR PILLARS (The values that will keep our vision on track)

PRAYER - that is sincere & honest, reflecting a dependence upon & intimacy with God. Philip. 4:6-7 2Ch 7:14 Matt. 21:22 Luke 18:1 James 4:2-3 James 5:16 Rom 8:26 Heb 4:14-16 Col. 4:2

We desire to be a church family that demonstrates an absolute dependence upon and intimacy with God through sincere and honest prayer. We want prayer to be the first thing we do. We want to develop a culture of prayer – individually and corporately - saturating everything we do by conversing with God intimately, without pretension. We want to be a church family who listens for the voice of God and responds accordingly.

OUTREACH - that is Christ-centered, loving, relational and need-oriented, both locally and globally. Acts 1:8, 1Cor. 3:6-7 Col. 4:5-6, Phil. 6

•Community Outreach - We desire to be a church family that lovingly and relationally seeks to help people in Arnprior and the surrounding area develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ by actively, practically and passionately participating in, and meeting the needs of, our community.

•Global Missions - We long to be a church family that has a heart for the lost by meeting practical needs and carrying the person and message of Jesus Christ to North America and around the world - developing a passion for missions that keeps it front and centre in our lives as we pray, give, send and go.

BIBLICAL TRUTH - that is taught & applied to every area of our lives. 2Tim. 2:15, 3:14-17, Heb. 4:12, Jn. 14:6, 26, Jn. 8:32, Ps. 86:11, Rom. 15:4, Joshua 1:8, Deut. 6:6-9, Philip. 1:9-11, Ps. 119:44-45, 165, Col. 1:28, Proverbs 3:5-6

We desire to be a church family that both teaches and applies biblical truth in such a manner that it impacts every area of our lives. We want to learn to understand the Bible and the key elements of our faith so that life transformation takes place - the kind of transformation that makes us God pleasers, not people pleasers – the kind of transformation that leads others to readily recognize the work of Christ in our lives and long for it.

DYNAMIC WORSHIP - that honours God deeply, both in our church and in life. Ps. 29:2, Jn. 4:23-24, Ps. 27:4, I Cor. 14:26, 10:31, Eph. 5:19-20, Rom. 12:1-2

We long to be a church family that worships God in dynamic and breath taking ways – both individually and corporately. We want our worship to be a way of life, a reflection of our deep love for God and the recognition of the immensity of His love and grace. We want our worship to be God focused - a heart issue - emotive, authentic, infectious, inspiring, celebratory and reverent – something that leads us into a greater unity. We want to stand in awe of God, free of distraction, demonstrating openness to the moving of the Holy Spirit, experiencing an overwhelming sense of God’s presence.

CARING SMALL GROUPS – Intimate communities that provide opportunities for lasting friendships and spiritual growth. Acts 2:42-47, Hebrews 10:24-25, James 2:14-17, Galatians 6:10, Biblical “One Another” Commands

We desire to be a church of small group communities where genuine spiritual growth takes place, lasting and caring friendships are built, heart-felt prayer is highly esteemed & the selfless serving of others is desired. We want our small groups to be intimate, fun, safe places where we gather together faithfully out of common interests and live out the “one another” commands in the Bible, sharpening and encouraging one another, and keeping one another accountable.

COMMUNITY – that is known for its unity, love, acceptance, and forgiveness; where relationships between young and old are embraced. Biblical “One Another” Commands Ephesians 4:2 & 32, Colossians 3:2-15, John 13:34-35, Romans 15:5-7

We long to be a church family known for its community –– where love, acceptance and forgiveness are given freely and unconditionally – a community that embraces relationships between young and old - where unity of purpose flourishes within a diversity of ideas and giftedness. We want to be known as a humble & welcoming community – a community that promotes encouragement, truthfulness, accountability and authenticity – a community that accepts people as they are, extending grace as God desires – a community that demonstrates an ability to be inclusive rather than exclusive – that is able to listen, to think the best of others, to care for the less fortunate – a community willing to forgo their own rights for the sake of others – a community able to see others through the eyes of Jesus.

CHILDREN AND YOUTH - for what they have to offer to God and His church today and in the future. (I Timothy 4:12, Matthew 19:14, Psalm 119:9, Psalm 78:5-8)

We desire to be a church family that welcomes and honours everyone, irrespective of age, yet, specifically values our children and youth – recognizing them for what they have to offer the church today. We want to intentionally equip our children and youth for life change, mentoring them and empowering them so that they can be all that God wants them to be as they use their giftedness in an energetic and vibrant manner. In short, while honouring the past we want to continually be looking forward, building a church for our children.

GIFT-ORIENTED MINISTRY - that empowers believers to use their God-given giftedness with excellence and creativity. 1Peter 4:10-11, I Corinthians 12 & 13, Ephesians 4:11-16, Colossians 3:23, Romans 12:1-18, 2Corinthians 9:8

We long to be a church family where believers are equipped, empowered and encouraged to use their God-given giftedness, passions and personality in ministry – where all the gifts are honoured equally – where biblical leadership is sought after - where believers are helped in identifying their giftedness, and then, provided with the training, resources and tools necessary to serve with excellence and creativity.

FAMILIES - that are guided by godly, biblical principles. Matthew 19:4-6, Proverbs 14:26, Ephesians 5:22 – 6:4, Proverbs 22:6, Deuteronomy 6:6-9, Joshua 24:14-15

We long to be a church family that honours a biblical view of marriage and builds families that are guided by godly principles. We also want to be known as a church that brings healing, reconciliation and God’s grace into broken relationships - that enfolds and cares for those who are single or single again.

STEWARDSHIP - that is faithful, sacrificial – encompassing everything God has given us. (II Corinthians 9:7, Proverbs 3:9, Acts 3:6, Luke 6:38, Leviticus 27:30, Exodus 23:19a)

We desire to be a church family that demonstrates complete trust in God’s provision by lovingly, willingly and joyfully becoming good stewards of everything God has provided us. We want to be known for our openness, mercy and generosity - faithfully and sacrificially giving of our time, finances, giftedness and resources – using everything we have to bring glory to God.

We will strive to pursue these pillars with excellence and adaptability, with the understanding that the Message of Christ is sacred while the methods of teaching it are not. We will continually work toward providing an environment that is open to godly change.
